A Year in Review…2012…

So 2011 was The Year of the House.

I guess 2012 was The Year of the Denver Road Trip…and Andy Grammer apparently.

1.) Where did you ring in 2012?
At home. Probably playing Star Wars…though I don’t actually remember for sure what we were doing at midnight.

2.) What did you do in 2012 that you’d never done before?
Bob and I took a road trip to Denver for a Train concert on our anniversary.

3.) Did you keep your new year’s resolutions and will you make more for next year?
It’s the same every year: I don’t make resolutions. I don’t need an annual holiday to guilt me into making lofty goals that I will never bother completing only to feel greater shame for myself in the end. That’s what making resolutions ultimately does to just about everyone who makes them.

4.) Did anyone close to you become engaged or married?
Lisa finally got engaged to Rob.
Joe and Gayle FINALLY got married…after about fifteen years together.

5.) Did anyone close to you give birth?
There were a lot of babies but no one terribly close.

6.) Did anyone close to you die?
Nobody close died this year, though there were some that I knew to varying degrees.

7.) How did you earn your keep?
Cooking dinner. Doing laundry. Fully intending to clean the house. Spoiling Bob.

8.) What countries did you visit?
How common is it for people to have an actual answer to this question? How many people (who are prone to memes) travel to different countries on a regular basis?

9.) What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?
A king-size bed. I know I used that last time, but dammit anyway, we’re finally in a position to get one. I just have absolutely no desire to go shopping for one.

10.) What dates from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory and why?
September 19th…our third wedding anniversary spent at Red Rocks seeing some of my very favorite music live.

11.) What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Grabbing my anxiety disorders by the balls and going on a road trip I had little hope of surviving.

12.) What was your biggest failure?
My cholesterol took a staggering leap into the red zone. I need to get my ass back on speaking terms with O’Malley

13.) Did you suffer illness or injury?
My blood pressure decided to go insane and landed me back on medication for it.

14.) Did you ever encounter the police?
Ha. Twice. Got pulled over (first time ever) in Belle Plaine on our way out of state en route to Colorado. I had a tail light out and apparently I was “weaving” over the fog line. Then again on our way home from Colorado when we got rear-ended at a stoplight less than ten miles from my aunt & uncle’s house.

15.) What was the best thing you bought?
Concert tickets to see Train, Andy Grammer, and Mat Kearney.

16.) Where did most of your money go?
Mortgage aside…Bob and I both got new computers because our old ones died unexpected, tragic deaths. Also: Road Trip.

17.) What did you get really excited about?
Our Denver road trip and the music that ensued.

18.) Compared to this time last year, are you…
…happier or sadder? Happier. The longer I have Bob in my life, the happier I get.
…thinner or fatter? Thinner by about twenty pounds. Anxiety diet…for the win?
…richer or poorer? Richer now that we’ve settled well enough in our house.

19.) What do you wish you’d done more of?
Cleaning and organizing my house.

20.) What do you wish you’d done less of?
Apparently I ate a lot of bad food to spike my cholesterol.

21.) How did you spend Christmas?
The usual. Christmas Eve with my [mom’s] family. Christmas Day with Bob’s family.

22.) What are your short and long term goals for 2013?
Short Term: king-size bed
Long Term: get the house cleaned/organized and paint these damn flat-white walls

23.) What was your favorite TV program?
We started watching Breaking Bad. Holy Christmas.

24.) What were your favorite books of the year?
I actually read books this year. I can’t say any of them were my “favorite” but dammit, I read books.

25.) What was your favorite music from this year?
Train, Ingram Hill, and 3 Doors Down all put out new music, but Andy Grammer ruled over them all.

26.) What song will always remind you of 2012?
Pick an Andy Grammer song. There you have it. Possibly just Lunatic as it was the theme song of our trip.

27.) What were your favorite films of the year?
We watched several movies (at home) but off hand, nothing really stands out. Pick something with Gerard Butler or Bradley Cooper. Or Tom Hardy or Ryan Reynolds. So much pretty.

28.) What did you do on your birthday and how old were you?
I turned 33 on a Monday. Bob took the whole week off. We went shopping, Bob bought me pajama pants and slippers, and we had Chinese food for dinner.

29.) What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
My mental health took a hit this year. Not taking a nose dive would have been nice.

30.) How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?
I’m a huge proponent of the “just fell out of bed” look.

31.) What kept you sane?
Bob and music.

32.) Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Starts with Andy and ends in Grammer.

33.) Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012.
Even if it sounds COMPLETELY INSANE, sometimes it’s okay to take that chance. Go on a road trip to see your favorite band on your wedding anniversary.
