Pictures of you…

I want a new camera. I REALLY want a new camera. I just don’t NEED a new camera. And thus, I cannot justify or reason my way into buying one.

I have always loved taking pictures. Even as a kid, I loved taking pictures. It was always of stuffed animals and other inanimate objects, but had I had actual interesting subject matter to take pictures of, I would have been all over that.

I look at all of these photography sites and these incredible pictures people take and I think, “Gawd, I’d love to take pictures like that.” I took a photography class in high school as my fine arts credit and I had a lot of fun with it. It was the one class I didn’t dread going to everyday. I got an “A+” on my portraiture project because I was able to set up the lighting and everything just right. If I didn’t abhor dealing with people so much, I might actually enjoy being a photographer—capturing moments in time.

My current…uhh…photography skills?…leave something to be desired. To put it lightly. Granted using a point-and-shoot limits what you can do in a lot of situations, unless you have actual skill. But studying the instruction manual and tinkering with settings, experimenting for hours, hasn’t really produced results…at all.

I’m not helping myself by looking at cameras online, knowing full well that I’m only window shopping. It only intensifies the overwhelming want. I found a camera that I think will serve my purposes quite nicely, but still, WINDOW SHOPPING. And no matter how good of a “deal” I can find on said camera, it’s not going to be just the camera. There’s going to be a memory card, a camera bag, and probably other accessories that a new camera doesn’t come with that all cost money. My current camera serves its purpose just fine. Maybe by the time this one starts to die on me, I’ll be able to justify the cost of the one that I want.

In the meantime, I try to hone my skills with a point-and-shoot best I can, while pining for a fancier camera to learn on. Because I am nothing if not a glutton for punishment.
