Apparently I have an obsession with word counts.<\/p>\n

Almost to the degree that I abuse commas.<\/p>\n

I was rifling through my pictures and found a disturbing number of images of word counts—all nice clean numbers.<\/p>\n

That’s just from this year. I didn’t go back before that. But there are more.<\/p>\n

Trust me.<\/p>\n

Sheep knows. He’s usually poking his nose into the shot when I’m taking it.<\/p>\n

When I set out to write, I never have a specific number in mind that I want to hit for a word count. I know there are people who start writing a novel with a specific number in their heads. When they hit that number, the novel should be finished. If it’s not, they have to edit it to get it to fit into that box.<\/p>\n

I will never be one of those writers. But watching the numbers climb makes me feel like I’m actually accomplishing something.<\/p>\n

Even if it tends to stall at 40k<\/a> (plus or minus) on just about every damn project.<\/p>\n

Except for one specific project<\/a> that shall remain nameless.<\/p>\n

That one has been languishing at 60-some-thousand for a very long time. And that’s not including all of the side-story, back-story, what-if-story, what-have-you-story. Pretty sure that one tops out well over 100k if you were to count up everything.<\/p>\n

If only I could finish the damn thing.<\/p>\n

Or anything.<\/p>\n

I’ll take a finished anything<\/i> at this point.<\/p>\n
