A Year in Review…2013…

It’s 2014.

What.

The hell.

2011 was “The Year of the House.”

2012 was “The Year of the Denver Road Trip…and Andy Grammer.”

2013 was The Year of…apparently if it ain’t one thing, it’s another, fucking Christ.

1.) Where did you ring in 2013?
At home. Bob was probably playing a game and I was probably writing (or staring at the internet).

2.) What did you do in 2013 that you’d never done before?
Bought a king-sized bed. It ain’t much but it was an unadventurous year.

3.) Did you keep your new year’s resolutions and will you make more for next year?
We’ve been over this.

4.) Did anyone close to you become engaged or married?
Lisa and Rob got married after…six?…seven?…more? years of being together.

5.) Did anyone close to you become pregnant or give birth?
Jenn announced baby number two due next spring. Alicia had baby number three. (I’ve known these girls for over twenty years. Egad.)

6.) Did anyone close to you die?
Both of Marci’s parents died a week apart. Bob and I weren’t close to them, but they were good people.

7.) How did you earn your keep?
Playing housewife.

8.) What countries places did you visit?
We didn’t do much outside of home this year. This is not a problem for us.

9.) What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013?
Some semblance of the pseudo mental stability I had a couple years ago.

10.) What dates from 2013 will remain etched upon your memory and why?
Memorial weekend, I suppose. We went bed shopping and finally got a new bed.

11.) What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I got a pretty significant amount of writing done.

12.) What was your biggest failure?
Didn’t make any progress on cleaning and organizing the house.

13.) Did you suffer illness or injury?
I had my first chest cold in about five years that lasted a solid month. In all that time without, I completely forgot how to cope with a damn cold.

14.) Did you ever encounter the police?
Nope.

15.) What was the best thing you bought?
A new bed. It’s like a real grown-up bed.

16.) Where did most of your money go?
Stuff for the house. And the cars. God dammit, Joel.

17.) What did you get really excited about?
A new bed and a whole lot of new music.

18.) Compared to this time last year, are you…
…happier or sadder? Not necessarily sadder, but definitely more in the hole stability-wise.
…thinner or fatter? About the same.
…richer or poorer? Richer, I suppose.

19.) What do you wish you’d done more of?
Cleaning and organizing my house.

20.) What do you wish you’d done less of?
Battling my own brain.

21.) How did you spend Christmas?
Christmas Eve with my family. Christmas Day dinner with Bob’s.

22.) What are your short and long term goals for 2014?
Short Term: Build a new treatment plan with a new psychiatrist.
Long Term: Clean and organize the house and get some damn walls painted.

23.) What was your favorite TV program?
We watched Breaking Bad and Being Human.

24.) What were your favorite books of the year?
I read some books but nothing particularly exciting.

25.) What was your favorite music from this year?
Oh Boy. Andy Grammer, Ryan Star, Matt Nathanson, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Nine Days…there was a fuckton of new music this year with more to come soon.

26.) What song will always remind you of 2013?
I’ll say Mission Bells by Matt Nathanson just because that one probably got the most airplay of all the new tunes. Or the Glee Darren Criss version of Teenage Dream because that’s how my brain works.

27.) What were your favorite films of the year?
We saw the new Superman movie in the theater. Henry Cavill is pretty.

28.) What did you do on your birthday and how old were you?
I turned 34. I am officially in my mid-thirties. Bob was off work, we went shopping for a Christmas tree, and had pizza for dinner while watching super hero movies.

29.) What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Making a psychiatrist appointment sooner, but I consider it a victory I got an appointment made at all.

30.) How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2013?
Pajamas all the time.

31.) What kept you sane?
Bob and music.

32.) Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Lots of music makers.

33.) Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2013.
Life happens and sometimes the only viable response is, “Well Fuck.”

Is There Anyone Out There
Toad the Wet Sprocket

Something to say?
