Dreamweaver…part two…

I hate when dreams make sense.

There’s this bizarre phenomenon that occurs sometimes wherein I dream about one of my story projects as the story is happening and it’s all very real. It doesn’t usually have the same cracked-out elements of a typical dream, things make sense. While things tend to be slightly different than how they’re being written in reality, they play out in the dream in a way that isn’t all that unfathomable.

It kind of creeps me out.

I had a dream about my latest project last night. When I woke up from the dream, I had a kind of, “Sonofabitch!” moment. Because this is how I handle new ideas. It manifested a whole new character and the potential for a subplot that I would have never come up with otherwise. I’d have to make a few changes to some existing plans, but I haven’t invested too much into planning those parts just yet. It wouldn’t be that much work to make the change. It would add a layer of conflict to the main character that she seems to be lacking as is. I just don’t know if it’s the right kind of conflict. I guess I’ll have to play around with things and see what I come up with.

I suppose there’s some sort of irony in a dream throwing a wrench into the plans of a story that was spawned from another dream in the first place. You’d think I was on drugs. I mean illegal ones.

In the meantime, I’m still struggling with starting the story itself structure-wise. Oh I’ve got pages and pages of dialogue and random scenes, but a solid beginning? Pfft! Who needs that?

Something to say?
