Nothing to declare…

June 1st.

Week 116.

It’s only been six days. WTF is happening?

I’m distracting myself from swearing about my goddamnmotherfuckingcursed car by fixating on the fact that good ol’ Panic! At the Disco dropped a new song today and announced an album release date for August 19th. (Here’s hoping it’s not some experimental concept album.) I’m kind of annoyed that this is more exciting to me than the new O.A.R. song that dropped two weeks ago. (Maybe because I forgot to lick a toad before watching the video.) I didn’t lick a toad before the new Panic! video either, but I really don’t expect to understand any video he puts out, and the new one still tracks.

On first listen, I only half registered the actual song because I was distracted by the overly dramatic inanity, but then I was jarred by a section that was unexpectedly familiar. There is a lot about the song that sounds familiar, but I can’t pinpoint anything specific that it reminds me of. Except the…bridge? (Grasping at straws on the terminology.) To me it sounds startlingly like the chorus of Capetown by The Young Veins.

As Brendon Urie repeats to nowhere… half a dozen times or so…

All I hear is Ryan Ross singing I saw you, I met you, I loved you, I left you…

Intentional? Accidental? Just another every song sounds like Pachelbel’s Canon in D situation?

Ross did write almost all of their songs when Panic! was actually A BAND instead of one dude still carrying the name around.

Whichever it is, we’re not going to go down that rabbit hole and all its implications.

Maybe I just have Capetown on the brain a lot lately. Parts of that song sound a lot like Be My Baby by The Ronnettes. Then again, that whole album is meant to sound fifty years older than it really is. (See: the bonus tracks that are all covers from that era of music.)

Anyway here’s Wonderwall that’s what I’ve been thinking about all damn day.

Because it’s either that or fuming over Joel’s busted A/C and fan that WE JUST SHELLED OUT MONEY FOR LAST WEEK. And we’re not going to talk about THE NEWSEVER.

Goddammit Brendon Joel.

Also…

WHY ARE CASSETTES MAKING A COMEBACK?

Joel does have a tape deck…

But that’s not going to impact the Last.fm stats.
