Bathing in light…

December.

To that I say, finally and how because this year has felt both like an endless slog and a smear of blink and you’ll miss it.

More so than usual at least.

A few years ago (when exactly, I do not remember) finding the motivation to put up the Christmas tree did not happen until very late in the season (when exactly, I do not remember) and even then, I really DID NOT feel like decorating it. (I like Christmas decorations, I hate putting them up.) So in an effort to find a sufficient compromise, we put the tree up with the lights and instead of ornaments, I rounded up a small population of Christmas-y stuffed animals, stuck them in the branches of the tree, and called it a day.

And we both decided we kind of liked that better than several dozen little ornaments. So that has become the tradition. It’s a little on the sparse side by comparison, but a tree inhabited by stuffed critters is so much more on-brand around here than anything else. And now instead of trying to find a new ornament every year, I seek out a new small Christmas-y critter to plant in the tree.

Jinx picked out this year’s critter.

[Christmas Unicorn...s]

Because unicorns.

Bob gave Jinx a candy cane so she could match her new buddy. She had to improvise a little bit.

[Basically twins...]

They are both super jazzed to dance to some Christmas music while bringing in the November Last.fm stats.
