A Year in Review…2020…the Music…

There were a few years in a row that I put together a fancy little graphic to showcase my top ten most played artists for the year. Some ended up in my normal year-in-review posts and one got its own post with some other stats tacked on. It really wasn’t that fancy and it always took far longer to put together than it should have for as simple as it was, because I am not a graphic designer (graphic artist?) by any stretch. I can use Photoshop. I am by no means good at it.

Anyroad.

I ended up not posting any cumulative stats for 2019 because I didn’t have the mental capacity to make my fancy graphic and for some demented reason I didn’t see the point of a post if I didn’t have the dumb graphic to go with it.

And it’s bothered me for an entire year now.

Because I only worry about important shit over here, okay?

This is my brain and welcome to it.

In 2020 I listened to a grand total of

… 29,886 plays of

… 2,244 tracks from

… 395 albums by

… 136 artists.

You know. Give or take. Last.fm isn’t always entirely accurate. And there are times when it doesn’t even run when it’s supposed to. It also doesn’t track what I listen to on CD in the car or on ye olde iPod elsewhere in the house, so there’s a long list of songs that aren’t counted. Though we all know it would just boost the numbers of the artists that are already on the list because I don’t listen to anything else anyway.

Looking over this year’s roundup of music really reflects just how bad my anxiety has been simply based on just how repetitive everything is. (No-nomore than usual.) I fixate in a bad way on a good day, but when the anxiety is bad, a playlist barely ends before I hit play again for hours on end. It was a bad year for anxiety.

In equally as shocking news…water is wet.

The first song of the year played was Run To by Emerson Hart

The last song of the year played was Razzmatazz by I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME

Not really any surprises in this list. Though there are some I would have predicted higher numbers for, but those might have been from plays that weren’t tracked.

Honorable mention: even more from Fall Out Boy, I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME, and Splender, plus Brandon Flowers, The Killers, Tonic, Matt Nathanson, Nine Days, Parachute, Stage, O.A.R.

Clearly my habit of listening to all of Fall Out Boy‘s albums in one playlist impacted the top ten in a big way. I did consider just lumping all of the FoB albums into one slot and picking up the next in line. Maybe if it happens again. It’ll probably happen again.

I had to go as deep as the top 150 songs to get a little variety in the honorable metions because, as previously stated, clearly I have a problem with fixating.

I don’t have a fancy graphic to showcase my annual stats. But I do have a picture of a fox nesting in my headphones. Because Ryan is kind of an asshole.

You heard me.
