January.
2022
It’s the year Soylent Green takes place.
I don’t know which reality I’d actually prefer at this point to be perfectly honest.
Week 96…
AIN’T NO END IN SIGHT, KIDS.
*ahem*
Anyroad.
We’re gonna talk about Final Fantasy XIV…
When the Shadowbringers expansion came out in summer of 2019, I had mostly only played the Summoner job because CARBUNCLES. I had partially leveled other jobs for various requirements (when that was still a thing in-game) and just to poke around other options, but nothing ever struck me as something I wanted to play regularly. Shadowbringers brought in the Dancer job and while I was initially skeptical trying it out, once I leveled it up, I was sold, and I’ve been playing it as my main ever since. But Shadowbringers also locked the amaro mount I REALLY WANTED behind the achievement of getting all jobs to level 80. So I started leveling all those other jobs in earnest because I NEEDED that fluffy bird thing.
I didn’t have a goal time-wise of when I wanted to finish the task, other than maybe by the time the next expansion came out in two years. I worked on it off and on whenever I felt so inclined. I didn’t want to burn myself out on it. I didn’t want it to stop being fun. So anytime it felt like too much of a chore, I stepped away from it for awhile. First I got every class to level 30 to unlock the corresponding jobs. Then I got everything to level 50. Then I leveled each job from 50 to 70. Then it was just a 10-level home stretch to get to the capstone 80. When Endwalker finally came out, I had three jobs left to finish. I spent a couple weeks mostly focused on the new story, and then started pecking at those last three jobs. And just over a month after the launch of Endwalker (which raised the level cap to 90), I finally finished getting every job to 80.
Sage and Reaper are new with the expansion, so they don’t count towards the 80 achievement. I don’t know if or when I’ll level everything to 90 as the reward that comes with the achievement is less compelling. I will level a few other jobs to 90 so I can complete relevant story content, but as for the rest of them…we’ll see what happens. It doesn’t take long to get ten levels. And it will be less work down the line if future expansions up the anti on the rewards for getting everything to max level. I’ve got at least two years until that happens.
In the meantime…
I got my goofy, fluffy bird thing.
He’s excited to bring in the monthly Last.fm stats.
