Picking up steam…

I wrote this back in January as part of the lead-in to the monthly Last.fm stats and then ended up cutting it out and dumped it into its own draft with the intent to post it later and then promptly forgot it existed. This does not surprise anyone. I didn’t even bother to edit the parts that claim it’s still January.

We’re going to talk about Final Fantasy XIV again.

Because reasons.

When I went to look up the last time I wrote about this particular nonsense, I found that it was January’s monthly post last year. Will this become an annual thing? No. But it was mildly amusing. And also interesting. To me and me alone. I don’t always document things of actual import around these parts but my journey to get everything to max level in a video game will be sufficiently documented.

December of 2021 saw the release of FFXIV’s Endwalker expansion and in January I wrote about finishing getting every battle class to level 80, thus earning the achievement that awarded me my much-coveted amaro mount. I was very excited to get my goofy, fluffy bird-thing. I also mentioned that I wasn’t in any hurry to get everything to the new level cap of 90, but I’d probably try to get there by the time the next expansion hit in roughly two years. There’s no real benefit in levelling jobs I don’t really play, other than bragging rights and some non-crucial side story, and the achievement reward was far less compelling than a critter to ride around on. But I slowly pecked away at it with low effort content, not fully realizing that 10 levels really doesn’t take very long to get through even if you put in minimum effort.

Which is how I ended up getting all those other jobs I don’t actually play (other than to level for brownie points) to max level in less than a year after finishing the last round.

Hm.

Well then.

Mission accomplished, I guess.

This is the first time I’ve had everything to max level to see all those orange numbers. It’s silly and pointless, but it’s fun.

The reward for all that work is just a feathered headdress, which I will never wear. It’s definitely no fluffy bird thing, but at least I can put it on and twin with Joel [the Chocobo]. (Not to be confused with Joel the Obstinate and Cursed Jetta TM) And if the next max-level achievement has a better reward, I will have far less work to put in when the time comes.

Joel’s not terribly impressed by my achievement. His headdress is fancier and has a tiny chocobo on it. He agrees my Carbuncle ears are pretty cool though.
