August.
Or more importantly, it is now the END of August and HALLE-FUKCING-LUJAH for that.
Last weekend it was sixy-some degrees out and we turned off the A/C and opened the windows for four days. Then it shot back into the 80’s. Because of course it did. But it’s Labor Day weekend and the temperature is supposed to drop again later in the week and hopefully we won’t have to turn the A/C back on again after that.
In other news…
I got a SodaStream.
It was Bob’s idea. He thought it was a worthy investment.
I like carbonated beverages, but I don’t drink much soda these days. I do drink kombucha pretty much daily. I tried it…some…number of years ago when there was a whole fermented foods/beverages help anxiety thing going around and while that claim was snake oil, I did find I enjoy kombucha, even if some of it tastes like fruity beer. I usually only drink half a bottle a day because it’s expensive and some brands have way more sugar than others and my tolerance for really sugary beverages has gone way down in my old age. We usually get it at Costco because it’s cheaper, but that means I’m at the mercy of their supply decisions. At some point, I started adding club soda to my daily serving to prolong my enjoyment, but I only use so much at a time, and the rest goes flat before I finish a bottle. Which is just adding plain water and diluting everything and what’s the fun in that.
After the initial investment of the machine (and “spare” canisters), one canister of CO2 can make up to sixty liters of charged water at about a quarter of the price of buying sixty one-liter bottles of [store brand] club soda. Even if I only get 30 liters out of a canister (because I like the strong fizz), it’s still cheaper than buying the same amount of club soda. Yeah charged water is different from club soda, but it’s perfectly fine for my tastes and I can just make a bottle on the fly instead of waiting for a grocery trip. I’m still drinking mostly plain water every day, but now I have the option of fizz if I want it. Especially in the insomnia hours.

I don’t often see new Funko Pops and think, I need that, but I saw the Cozy Heart Penguin Care Bear Cousin Pop and immediately said, I NEED THAT. Care Bears and their Cousins were my childhood. And who doesn’t need more penguins in their life? She recruited Carbuncle and Brendon to help bring in her first monthly Last.fm stats.
