One last cloud…

Friday morning I woke up with a scratchy throat. It was mild and annoying, but I chalked it up to allergies because we’d had the windows open most of the week and trees are the devil. I expected it to ease up as the day went on, but it actually started to get worse. By late afternoon I felt like I got hit by a bus. But I was in denial and wrote it off to the fact that I hadn’t been able to eat food until after 3PM. I had to fast for a blood test earlier in the day, but everything took much longer than anticipated so I didn’t get to eat until much later than expected. By bedtime, I knew I had a cold.

Great.

Being at home all the time, I don’t get sick much. Not like when I had a job, or was going to school and I picked up a minimum of two different plagues every single winter. Bob doesn’t get sick much, but when he does bring something home from work, I usually catch it. He hasn’t been sick this time, so I don’t know where exactly I caught it from, but we’re hoping he stays healthy.

This is the first cold I’ve had since before my surgery. It’s been weird, because despite the disgusting amount of mucus pouring out of my face, I could still mostly breathe through my nose. Usually I spend the duration of a cold breathing through my mouth because everything is swollen shut, so at least I had that going for me while I felt like death.

On Day Six, things seem to be moving out of my system. Which is also surprising, because usually things take a good two weeks to clear out. We’ll see how long the residual crud hangs around.

You know—according to the internet a temperature of 99.x isn’t considered a fever.

The chills, sweats, and full-body aches call bullshit on that little “rule.”
