House: Day One…

The great mystery of who changed the locks was solved early this morning. As it turns out it was the mortgage company who ordered the locks to be changed. Who is apparently different than the selling bank in charge of the short sale…bwuh?

I only pretend to understand these things.

The ever-so-BRILLIANT home owner…the person selling the house…decided that she must call and get all of the utilities out of her name. So she cancelled them. Not as of the date we took possession. Just ZOMG!RIGHT!NAO!

Cancelling the utilities set off a chain of events that declared the property “ABANDONED” and sent up a BIG! RED! FLAG! with the mortgage company. They sent someone out to change the locks (and apparently steal the garage door remote in the process) and not bother to tell anybody else who might actually need this information.

The house currently has no electricity and no water.

We FINALLY got the one, lonely key this afternoon and went to stake our claim on our house.

We perused the place and then headed out to buy new locks.

We changed out the front door lock—which took awhile—hi, we’re new. And called it a day. Stopped to get dinner and headed home.

There’s only so much you can do with no electricity and no water.

Tomorrow the electricity should be turned on sometime between six and eight AM. The water is scheduled to be turned on at nine. Sometime after that we’re having the carpet cleaned. And in the meantime, we will be cleaning the rest of the house and getting it ready for moving in on Sunday.

BUT WE HAVE KEYS.

Something to say?
